A cryptocurrency scheme, Hamster Coin, has left millions of Nigerians in shock and despair after its launch and listing yesterday. The project had promised unprecedented riches, claiming it would make millions of Nigerians billionaires and CEOs.

Instead, users received a paltry sum of N2.75 (approximately $0.006), $7, $4, or $3, sparking widespread outrage and disappointment.

Hamster Coin’s marketing strategy relied heavily on social media influencers and online advertisements, enticing users with promises of astronomical rewards for participating in a simple “tap tap tap” task for five months.

The scheme’s developers claimed that users would receive $1 million each as a reward for their dedication. However, the reality turned out to be starkly different.

The news has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing anger, disappointment, and sadness.

“How could they do this to us?” tweeted @NaijaInvestor. “We trusted them with our time and effort, only to be rewarded with N2.75.”

“I feel like I’ve been scammed,” wrote @CryptoNaija on Facebook. “Five months of tapping for nothing.”
