Dr Tony Nwoye’s Bill seeking establishment of Federal University of Education in Nsugbe passes second reading at the Senate

ABUJA-Nsugbe Community in Anambra East local government Area is hopeful of having a Federal University of Education soon.

This is sequel to the second reading of a bill seeking the establishment of such a university at the Senate on Thursday.

Titled “A bill for an Act to establish a Federal University of Education, Nsugbe to provide Training and Teaching Instructions in every aspect of Education and such other Fields of Applied Learning relevant to the Needs of the Development of Education in Nigeria, Matters of Administration and Discipline of Students and for Related Matters”, the bill is being sponsored by Senator Dr Tony Nwoye.

It will be recalled that there is already an existing College of Education in the area which is likely to be upgraded and accorded a University status.

Leading the debate at the plenary, Nwoye said that the institution when established would help to improve the standard of education in the country.

He said ” It will upgrade the standard of learning, refocus our education, establish the issue of postgraduate studies. It will help engender and improve the educational system.”

Supporting Nwoye’s submission, many of the Senator’s said the school would provide the needed manpower in the education sector.

“We need the school to be upgraded to a university, they have the necessary manpower. We support the bill”, many of them simply said.

When subjected to voice vote, the bill got the endorsement of all the members of the Senate.
