Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Bamidele Abiodun, has lamented the alarming rate of school dropouts as a result of teenage pregnancy in the State.
She said this in her speech delivered as part of activities to celebrate girls in Ogun State. Abiodun noted that today’s girl are growing up in an era that presents significant challenges such as climate crises, conflicts, deepening poverty, and setbacks in the fight for gender equality.
On her part, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs in Ogun state, Adijat Adeleye in her remark reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring every girl is valued, respected, and given the opportunities they deserve. She posited that the current administration in the state recognizes the critical role our girls play in building a prosperous and sustainable society through various cross-sectorial initiatives such as education, health, empowerment, and protection.
The keynote speaker, Abbigail Msemburi Head of UNFPA Lagos Office, who spoke on the theme” Girl’s Vision For the Future” charged all stakeholders to amplify girl’s child voices, support their careers and break any barriers they may face. Msemburi also encouraged girls’ children to hold on to their dreams, nothing that their dreams are their power.
