WTO Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Refutes Claims of World Bank and IMF Loan to Biafra Republic

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Simon Ekpa

In a recent statement, World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has firmly debunked claims made by Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa regarding a supposed agreement between the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide a loan of $57.5 million to a Biafra Republic Government.

Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that no such negotiations or agreements have taken place, categorically stating that she did not facilitate any loans related to this matter. The claims, which have circulated widely on social media, have raised concerns among stakeholders about misinformation regarding international financial institutions’ involvement in regional political issues.

The WTO DG urged the public to rely on verified information from credible sources and reiterated her commitment to promoting transparency and dialogue in global trade matters. As the situation in Nigeria remains complex, Okonjo-Iweala’s comments highlight the importance of accurate reporting in discussions surrounding regional autonomy and financial support.
