The Leader of the Southern Caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, has reaffirmed their commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform process while emphasizing openness to further dialogue and input from Nigerians.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, he highlighted the caucus’s dedication to delivering better tax laws for the country.
The Southern Caucus also expressed unified support for the tax reform bills, which include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill 2024, Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill 2024, and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill 2024.
Hon. Fredrick Agbedi dismissed the notion of a southern and northern divide, stating that the National Assembly’s sole responsibility is to legislate for the entire nation.
Hon. Babajimi Benson explained that the bills would follow due legislative processes, including public hearings, to ensure transparency and inclusiveness.
He stressed the importance of collaboration, saying, their interest is to sit down with their brothers, and at the end of the day, Nigeria will be better for it.
