34-year-old suspect on the run after father’s death

A 34-year-old suspect, Godstime Dennis, has been declared wanted for allegedly causing the death of his father at Akpakpava area of Benin, the Edo state capital.

 The suspect’s father, it was learnt, was trying to force his son into a cult group which the son declined to join.

 An eyewitness said, in November, 2008, the victim late father came into his room where he was sleeping and dragged him out with the assistance of some people with the intention to force him to join their cult.

“On the fateful day, his father came into his room was the day they were initiating new members and his father wanted him to be part of them, because he knew he was about to die and that he wanted him to be a member  at all cost, but he declined because of his Christian faith,” the eyewitness said.

 Continuing, he said: “Unfortunately, the two boys his father brought to assist him in taking him to their cult group forcibly were armed with cutlass. When he tried to defend himself from being hit with the cutlass the hired boys where holding, the cutlass he was holding mistakenly hit his father on the neck.

“That was how he started bleeding, and before they could rush him to the hospital, he had died. Since then, his family’s and residents have been pointing accusing finger at him that he killed him.

 “He has been on the run since then because the police have been after him and the cult members of his late father were also after him.”

 Confirming the story, Edo state command police relations officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the suspect has been on their wanted list for long.

He, however, appealed to anyone with useful information about the suspect to come forward to the police, saying the identity of the informant will be protected.
