Following the global out break of the novel COVID19 virus, Nigeria recorded it’s first index case in February, weeks later the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Abba Kyari tested positive to the virus.
It was discovered that the Chief of Staff contracted the virus as a result of making multiple trips to Germany and Egypt. Arriving Nigeria, Mr Kyari who tested positive to the virus self isolated himself, and all members of his staff who came in contact with him, were also quarantined and tested.
It has been over a month the Chief of Staff tested positive and no update about his health status had been issued. Shortly after the Chief of Staff tested positive other high profile government officials and citizens have also tested positive to the virus, these officials include Governor of Oyo State Engineer Seyi Makinde, Governor of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Chief Medical Officer of The University College Hospital, Ibadan Mr Jesse Otegbayo and the Son(unnamed) of Former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar.
While recovery have been made by Governor Makinde, Mr Otegbayo and about 80(current statistics) Nigerians, the status of Mr Kyari still remains a mystery
As a high ranking member of the presidential cabinet, it is expected that tangible and credible information would be issued to the public as regards to the health status of Mr Kyari, as seen in the cases of other top government officials.
It would be recalled that as March 20th 2020 when asked about the particular location of Mr Abba Kyari, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, made the following statements “One aide of the president (Kyari) tested of COVID-19 and is now undergoing treatment at a secured facility”. The Minister added that he is in a secured government facility, where he is being monitored and checked. Till date the presidency is yet to release any information as regards to the current whereabouts and health condition of Mr Abba Kyari.
