Former Aide to Ex President Goodluck Jonathan, and the APGA leading aspirant in the November 6 slated Anambra governorship election Nze Akachukwu Sullivan Nwankpo on Thursday was a special guest and chairman of the Catholic Women Organization CWO annual Convention 2021 edition. The event which took place at the Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi had the theme “Sustaining the fight against Gender based violence especially amongst women & Girls”.
The memory-lingering event was organized by the Catholic Women Organization of Nnewi Diocese.
According to Nwankpo, “Today is another great day in the annals of Anambra State as we jointly march forward in our quest to frontally stamp out all forms of Gender-Based Violence, especially against women and children in our communities across the State.
“Essentially, this year’s convention is designed to scale up awareness and galvanize action. This is with the view to ensuring eradication of the menace of violence against women and girls in our society. I am delighted to be part of this noble cause. CWO plays a vital role in the Catholic community, may the good Lord bless your efforts. I urge you not to relent effort in the campaign to end violence against women,” he said.
Nze Nwankpo added that the CWO should collaborate with other stakeholders to address the ugly menace, with regards to care for victims. He enjoined the women to embark on a massive Campaign, Identification of Complaint Platforms, as well as Sensitization of various Women Groups in the state.
The high point of the occasion was the Installation of the Patrons and Patronesses/Award giving Ceremony. Prestigious awards titles were conferred on outstanding personalities which saw Nze Nwankpo decorating and presenting an award to Hon. Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu, a Federal Lawmaker, representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo in the House of Representatives, and the PDP frontline aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra.
Amongst the dignitaries at the event were His Royal Majesty Igwe Kenneth Onyeneke Nwafor Orizu 111, the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi town, the former governor of Anambra state Mr. Peter Obi, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Ezefunama the CWO Chaplain/Cathedral Administrator, and Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyginus Aghaulor, the Diocesan Chancellor.
The Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Odili Okeke was represented by the Vicar General, Very Rev. Msgr. Patrick Ezeobata.
