APC candidate, Ndukauba blasts ABSIEC, vows to recover mandate

Comrade Nwachinemere Ndukauba, the All Progressive Congress, APC, Councillorship Candidate for Ubakala Ward in the just concluded Local Government election in Abia State, has berated the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, for allegedly subverting the will of the people.

Ndukauba alleged that the state electoral commission aided the ruling People’s Democratic Party in rewriting election results, especially in most wards , the All Progressive Congress, APC won election.

The APC Candidate who spoke during a press conference in Umuahia, Wednesday, insisted that he rightfully won the councilorship poll at his Ubakala Ward A in Umuahia South local government area.

Ndukauba however vowed to toe legal path to regain his mandate.

His words, “In the just concluded council election which I contested as Councilorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, I was not really happy with the conduct of ABSIEC. Actually before the council election, we knew that the Executive Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu made a statement asking that the ABSIEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election, which made every candidates of every opposition parties to contest with the mindset of proving their popularity in their localities.

“For so doing that, I contested for councillorship seat, with the figures and the result we had from the returning officer, with out ward summary collation results, I emerged the highest candidate with highest number of votes from Ubakala Ward A in Umuahia South LGA, after which we found out that the ABSIEC went ahead to announce figures crediting my victory to the PDP candidate, which we are protesting, we are still asking, democracy has not truly come to play in local government election at ward level, especially in Ubakala Ward A.

“We call on the Executive Governor of Abia State to look at the results of the just concluded election in Ubakala Ward A, electoral malpractices was perpetrated. I condemn the swearing of the PDP candidate Mariam Nneoma Abali. We will take legal step to recover the stolen mandate without fear and favour to make democracy will come to play. Because, what we are talking about is the popularity of the candidate of every political party in the grassroots and bringing dividend of democracy at the grassroots. And I emerged most popular candidate in Ubakala Ward A.

“If you can go and stamp people’s opinions in Ubakala Ward A, you will find out vividly that I won with my result given to me by ABSIEC which I scored 408 votes while Maryam Nneoma Abali of PDP scored 353 votes.

On his part, APC Chairman, Ubakala Ward A, in Umuahia South local government area, Mr. Ihuoma Mmadukaku, criticized Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa-led Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, for the unfair treatment meted to the party Candidate, Nwachinemere Ndukauba.

Mmadukaku assured that the party leadership would take needful and legal steps to redress the irregularity abetted by the electoral umpire.

He posited that the people of Ubakala ward A would resort to a peaceful protest to further demand for justice if the relevant authorities fail to look into the matter.

Recall that the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, had conducted Chairmanship and Councillorship election across the seventeen local government areas of the State.

The ABSIEC Chairman, Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, announced the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as winner of the seventeen Local Government Area seat of the State.
