Ayade Withdrawas Over #4 Billion, Arrest Top Civil Servants For Allegedly Leaking Official Secret

Governor Ben Ayade is at it again. Yesterday top civil servants where arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force, with Unit at the Cultural Centre Calabar, their offence is alleged to be that they “leaked” official secret concerning the withdrawal of over #4billon naira from the local government joint account, under the guise of funding COVID-19 PROTOCOL.

Recall that some weeks back the All Progressives Congress had raised the alarm of Governor Ayade’s lack of preparedness in combating the COVID-19 Pandemic. His commissioner for health without shame told the world that Cross River State has 105 certified medical doctors in her employ, whereas the truth is that there are only 33 certified medical doctors in the employ of the state government, an amount grossly inadequate if we are serious about the fight against COVID-19.

The question one may ask is, if the withdrawal of the said funds followed due process and is actually meant to provide medical facilities, to equip the state health sector to combat the ravaging Pandemic, why panic and arrest innocent civil servants who are bewildered by the monumental amount being (syphoned) withdrawn?.What makes the withdrawal an official secret? Assuming without conceding that an offence has been committed, would it not be proper to charge them to court instead of illegally detaining them and breaching their fundamental human right?, Is it that there is more to it than we already know? Could it be that the suspicion of ulterior motives of the withdrawn #4billion is true? Time shall surely tell where this money will end up, critics are of the opinion that the accounts of the co-governor cannot wait to be credited as usual.

We call on Governor Ben Ayade to stop embarrassing Cross River State with his reckless actions and release forthwith, every civil servant arrested and detained in connection with the so called leaking of official secret, this nonsense must stop.

Sir John Ochala.
State Chairman,
APC CRS.
