Not a few hard knocks greeted President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of immediate past Service Chiefs as no-career ambassadors, E-nigeria! can now report. Many Nigerians frowned at the President’s action, prominent among them is Reno Omokri.
President Buhari in a letter conveyed to the Senate President persuaded the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations.
Those in the nomination list include: Gen Abayomi G. Olonisakin (Rtd ), Lt. Gen Tukur Y. Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman (Rtd).
However in a swift reaction, Reno Omokri a former spokesperson to former President Goodluck Jonathan joined the band wagon of those who berated the President’s action.
In his argument, Reno opined that Buhari’s action was a calculated attempt to shield Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff from being arrested by the International Criminal Court – ICC over the alleged Lekki massacre of #Endsars protesters in October 2020.
Recall that on the eve of October 20, 2020 the Nigerian Armed Forces were reported to have viciously attached unarmed protesters; according to a report by Amnesty International the soldiers shot at unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
Civil right groups alongside Amnesty International wrote a petition against Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Y. Buratai, accusing him of supervising a genocide.
