ASABA – Hon. Chief Uso Onianwa (J.P); M.D.A. (U.I), the Oza- Okita of Asaba, the global legend gone home at aged 91 years. Indeed this is a great celebration of life for us all in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria and globally.
Chief Uso was born on 15th January, 1928 at Enugu to the family of late Obi Utomi Onianwa his father (the Izoma of Asaba), and his morher, Mrs Esther Mgbocha who hailed from Umuda Quarters all from Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State. His father worked and retired as a Post Master with the Federal Government in Posts and Telegraphs Department and died during Nigerian Civil War in 1970.
Chief Uso Onianwa attended ST Peter’s C.M.S Primary School, Ogbete, Enugu State and later on as a result of his father’s transfer to Kano where he finished his Primary Education with Excellence in 1942 as a child full of creativity.
He therefore proceeded to Edo College, Benin City and later on, the closed down of the school as a result of Second World War made him moved to Kings College Lagos, Government College Ibadan and consequently to Government College Umuahia, where he finished his Secondary Education with Excellence in all types of sports in 1949. He read all through with Federal Government Scholarships since 1944 to 1949.
Chief Uso Onianwa proceeded to University College Ibadan bin 1952 where he graduated with Excellence. The global Icon was also gifted in the area of creative arts, social activities, Technical skills and others apart from being a sports enthusiast in his University days.
No doubt, the Community development expert, and Educationist had left legacy in the institution, University College Ibadan. He taught Biology in Okongwu Memorial School Nnewi before going further for greener pastures abroad. He was till death the life patron of University of Ibadan as the Pioneer Chairman of the Instruction’s Alumni Association, Asaba Chapter.
Hon Chief Uso then Onianwa worked with Nigerian Tobacco Industry Limited, a Sub-Sidiary of British-American Tobacco Company Limited being posted to exhibit his trainings acquired In different professional skills, department to different towns, States in Nigeria. He had also worked in Liverpool, England as a training Manager under same Company having distinguished himself on his job, carreer, profession.
Hon. Chief Onianwa in the then Bendel State with 19 Local Government Areas was a Local Government Chairman during the regime of Cool. Tunde .J. Ogbeha, he evaluated the Local Government Areas then and awarded the political ICON the best award on Environmental Sanitation, Maintenance of existing services, Financial Management and Accountability in 1988 during Military era for Oshimili Local Government, which he gave the credit to all employees of the council.
As a first class Chief in Asaba, encomiums had filled the entire air as a sign of celebration of life for a life well spent from his colleagues, friends and well wishers, Children, and Grand Children, and from old Bendel state, and Asaba, Delta State Government, and Nigeria as well as globally
This is a Celebration of Life indeed. Hon. The family of Late Chief Chief (Hon.) Uso Onianwa (J.P) is the immediate Senior Brother to a man highly respected in the State for making the media very relevant. That is making Newspapers distribution very easily and wildly circulated in the three senatorial districts of the state. Delta State Chief Vendor, Sir Ubakaeze Utomi Onianwa has highly celebrated his late elder brother who solved the problem of unemployment he faced in those days by fixing him up in Nigerian Tobacco Industry. Sir Ubakaeze’ s Wife, Ezinne Lady Kadinma Onianwa and their entire family rejoices with the entire family of Hon. Chief Obi Utomi Onianwa.
The Oza- Okita of Asaba A popular Street Owner in the State Capital called “Usonia Street opposite Uzo igwe Mixed Secondary School, besides Eco Bank, Nnebisi Road, Asaba. announces the passing on of their Husband, Father, Brother, Sisters, Uncle and Grandfather.
Funeral Arrangements: The popular Chief Usonia died at a very ripped aged of 91 years (1928-2019) which no doubt is a celebration of life. The Funeral Arrangements is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 6th November, 2019.
Day of tributes and Lecture Organized by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association on Honour of Chief Uso Onianwa (J.P), the global legend was the pioneer Chairman, University of Ibadan, Alumni Association, Asaba Chapter which will take place by 3pm prompt at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
The Guest Lecturer at the event is going to be Delta State Commissioner of office, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke Bode to dwell on the theme: “The impact of Security on Nation Building: The Delta State Story”.
Thursday 7th November, 2019 is the service of songs, which will take place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Umuaji Quarters, Asaba by 4.30pm.
On November 8th, 2019 body leaves St. Luke’s Hospital Mortuary, off Okpanam Road, Asaba to his residence by 6.30am and by 7.30am- 8.30am Body lying in state at his residence at no. 316 Nnebisi Road, West End Asaba. By 9.am prompt by leaves his residence to his Onianwa’s Ancenstra home at no. 277 Nnebisi Road Umuagu Quarters, Asaba.
And by 10am that same day on 8th of November, 2019 body leaves Onianwa’s Ancenstral home to Oshimili South Local government headquarters for lying in state, then the Following Service will take place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Umuaji Quarters, Asaba will take place by 11am prompt.
Also, by 12.30pm the interment will be done at the residence after Funeral Service at No. 316 Nnebisi Road, West- End, Asaba. By 1.00pm the Post Interment Reception at the Event Centre (Done), Cenotaph Road, Off Okpanam Road, Asaba.
On Saturday 9th November, 2019 will be the Traditional Rites (Egwu Ota and so on) at the Onianwa’s Ancenstral Compound at No 227 Nnebisi Road, Umuagu Quarters, Asaba by 2.00pm.
And finally, on Sunday 10th November, 2019 by 8:00am will be the outing Service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Umuaji Quarters, Asaba.
