Chelsea Agree £90m Deal With Bayer Leverkusen for Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz to Chelsea

Chelsea have made the crucial breakthrough in their efforts to sign Kai Havertz and are thought to have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over a transfer fee and payment structure.

The Blues have already secured the services of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner ahead of next season and Havertz had long been expected to join them at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United briefly enquired about Havertz in January and kept the 21-year-old talent on their transfer radar, but Chelsea have been his chosen club for a number of weeks and Leverkusen have always been open in their reluctance to stand in his way.
According to Bild, the deal is ‘about to be completed’ because Leverkusen will accept Chelsea’s offer of an initial €80m (£72m). That money is expected to be paid up front, with a further €20m in add-ons that will take the overall value of the package to €100m (£90m).

€10m (£9m) worth of add-ons will be paid to Leverkusen when Havertz reaches expected milestones for Chelsea, including playing in the Champions League knockout stages. The remaining €10m will depend on any trophies that Frank Lampard’s team win over the next five seasons.
That will cover the length of Havertz’s first contract at Chelsea, which is expected to run until 2025. Bild writes that he will earn €20m (£18m) per season in west London, worth €100m (£90m) to him over the full course of the contract, or around £346,000 per week.
