The Euro 2020 tournament produced yet another mouth watering encounter on Wednesday night in the semi final clash between England and the Denmark national team.
The three lions went behind in the 30th minute after a spectacular free kick by Mikkel Damsgaard. However, Wembley stadium gained its voice back nine minutes later thanks to an unavoidable own goal by Denmark captain Simon Kjaer.
Gareth Southgate’s side were in control for most parts of the game which dragged into extra time. Their pressure paid off in the first half of extra time when Raheem Sterling drew a foul in the opponent’s box to win a penalty. It took two efforts by Harry Kane to put the ball in the net but it was enough to clinch a victory on the night for England.
After the final whistle, England players and fans celebrated wildly both on the pitch and on social media. Most of the players, including the Chelsea boys in the squad took to their various social media handles to express their joy of reaching their first ever European final as a country.
England have three Chelsea players in their Euro 2020 squad who will be part of this year’s final. Like many expected before the start of the tournament, Mason Mount has been a mainstay in the starting eleven for them. He started the semi final against Denmark, played the full 90′ minutes and was only replaced in the 5th minute of extra time.
Reece James and Chilwell on the other hand have played limited roles for England so far in the competition.
After the game, the three of them have shared posts on social media to their fans and followers.
They were surely excited about the result but they did not lose sight of the challenge which lies ahead of them (the final against Italy).
