Chelsea’s defence continued to collapse as Chelsea remain winless at Stamford Bridge after a 2-2 draw against newcomers Sheffield United. Tammy Abraham led the line, the scoresheet and our player ratings.
Sheffield United’s defence put goals on a platter for Tammy Abraham. Unfortunately, Chelsea’s defense did much the same, getting caught out twice themselves as they failed to close out another game and had to settle for only a point.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Goalkeeper: 6.5
Kepa Arrizabalaga didn’t have much to do in the first half as Sheffield failed to register a shot on target. For the two goals Chelsea conceded, he could hardly have done anything to prevent them. The first was an open shot for Callum Robinson, who placed it into the far post; and the second was an own goal by Kurt Zouma. Arrizabalaga caught all the other shots on target with ease.
Cesar Azpilicueta, Right back: 6.5
Azpilicueta constantly made overlapping runs and put in the cross that led to the first goal for the Blues. He was good on attack, but was not equally good on defence, as the passes for both Sheffield goals came from his side of defence. Enda Stevens nutmegged him and ran past him with ease for the pullback to Callum Robinson for the opener and, in the dying minutes, a cross from Robinson from the right side led to the second equalizer.
Chelsea are conceding too many goals from the right side, which can’t help falling on the right back.
Fikayo Tomori, Center back: 6.5
On his first start in the Premier league, Tomori was good at the back and looked far more confident than Kurt Zouma. He passed the ball with no pressure and played out comfortably.
He still needs some work on his awareness and positioning, as could have had a better position during both attacks leading to goals.
Kurt Zouma, Center back: 6
Zouma’s defensive woes continued as he was sloppy in defence yet again. Slow to pick up the man in the box, he was the closest defender to the ball during both the goals, the extreme case being an own goal for the equalizer.
He won the most aerial duels (8) but lacked in defending the goal. Zouma still needs to work a lot on his defending. He does not look confident with the ball
Emerson, Left back: 7
Continuing his impressive displays under Frank Lampard, Emerson had a strong game as he made five interceptions and made useful passes throughout the 90 minutes. He made attacking runs but also ensured he had his defensive position covered as he cleared out long balls and made sure no real attack came down the left side.
