A 38-year-old man, Hassan Garba, has been remanded in the Katsina Prison for allegedly sodomising a 10-year-old boy.
Garba of the Sabuwar Unguwar Quarter, Katsina, was allegedly caught in the act by a police sergeant, Aliyu Mamman, of the Central Police Station, Market Outpost, Katsina metropolis.
The policeman consequently dragged Garba to the station, where the incident was documented.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the accused took advantage of the victim, who used to take shelter in the corridor of a house situated in the Mangal Garage Motor Park, Katsina area.
A police source, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media said, “Garba used to come to meet the boy, who usually slept on the veranda of the house situated in the Mangal Garage Motor Park area.
“He took advantage of the boy’s innocence, removed his pair of trousers and went ahead to have unlawful carnal knowledge of the boy.”
Garba was said to have been apprehended on May 15, 2019, and brought to the police station.
According to the police, Garba’s offence was contrary to the provisions of Section 284 of the Penal Code Law operational in Northern Nigeria.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, said investigation into the case was still in progress.
He explained that Garba, who was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court presided over by Hajiya Fadile Dikko, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till July 8, 2019, when the case would come up for mention.
