COVID-19: Ebonyi state government set to reopen schools – Umahi

The Ebonyi state Government has said Ebonyians should note that school in that state will soon reopen but not in the month of July

The Ebonyi state Governor David Umahi stated this in Abakaliki the Ebonyi state capital while addressing state executive council members in that state

Akalicious news report that Umahi said they have to start the process that will lead to the reopen schools probably between August and September 2020

He further adding that the king David academy will be starting first and he directed that all the coordinators, Chairmen of all the 13 Local Government Areas, traditional rulers, town union presidents, to use local people to clear all the secondary schools, primarily schools in that state and not rely to on government

Umahi called on Commissioner for education, Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Higher education, to develop E-syllables, starting with the teachers

Umahi said Ebonyi state government will fumigate all schools and conduct random test on her teachers. Adding that when schools resumes the state should have had trained personnel to teach the children Covid-19 protocols at least for the first one week.
In his statement “The public should note that Ebonyi state will reopen her schools immediately, not in the month of July, we have to start the process that will lead us probably to reopen our schools between August and September.
“And the process will be, the king David academy will be starting first, I’m directing that all the coordinators, the chairmen of all the 13 LGAs , traditional rulers, town union presidents, should use local people to clear all the secondary schools, primarily schools. They should clear that, it has been happening before, everything is not government.”

“So let us get them cleared when we do that I want Commissioner for education, SSA Higher education, to note very specially that this is the time to develop e-syllables, starting with the teachers,this is the opportunity to develop e- learning that we have been talking about.”
“Reopening of schools will start will cleaning of the schools, and every school we clean we will fumigate it, and then do random test on the teachers. We will also deploy health workers to mount awareness within the communities where the school is situated.”
“When school start we will have trained personnel to teach the children on Covid-19 protocols at least for the first one week. This covid is real and we need to be very careful. It is not just to start school and all that, even if Nigerians should miss one academic year and stay alive,it worth it. The essence of everything we are dqoing is life, and we wouldn’t want our children to start sch6 without proper awareness.”

“I want HAGI to note, we have to revoke every rights of Uburu Presbyyerian joint Hospital they have over ride public interest and government shall take it and make it EBSU General hospital or EBSU Community General hospital so that we will not have to start building another community health center as the requirement for the EBSU college of Medicine. So we have to take over from today as approved by exco. HAGI do the necessary thing with the Commissioner for Health, and bring to the next exco so that we will send documents to the house of Assembly for approval.”
