Disregard Fictitious ‘Ebonyi Indigenes In Diasporas’ Claim On Umahi’s Administration,Azu, Forum, Urge Ebonyi Indigenes, Others

Forum of Non-governmental Organisation, Civil Society Organisation, Voluntary Organisations and Political Support Groups has urged the good people of Ebonyi State and Nigerians in general to ignore one Pascal Oluchukwu and his co travellers in their recent claims on the performance of the state governor, David Umahi and state of things in the state.

Recall that Oluchukwu and some persons under the auspices of Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in Diaspora (AESID) had chided founder and Director of Adoration Ministry, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, for describing David Umahi a well performing governor, adding that what the Man of God said about Govenror Umahi’s performance was not obtainable in the state.

But the forum in a statement signed by its coordinator, Collins Azu, said
Governor Umahi has performed excellently well in delivering dividends of demoracy and had showed capacity for good governance in the state.

Azu insisted that the declaration of state of emergency in infrastructure by the Umahi’s administration are all pointers that the Governor has performed well in the state.

According to him, between 2016 and 2018, the government of David Umahi distributed 4,000 tricycles, disbursed N4bn for various empowerment programnes based on the enumerated data of street hawkers in the streets of Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers States—startups.

He said, “As indubitable group standing between the civil space and government, my opinion in the governance of Ebonyi State, if not subjected to political lense, is weighty as we have been working for the greater good of the people for the past 17 years.”

He continues, “Granted that the Forum is not an extension of Umahi’s media team, neither are we assembled parrots of praise singers, however, as the closest to the grassroots, from all indication, Governor David Umahi has lessened the job of civil society organisation in Ebonyi State.

“Prior to his emergence as the 3rd democratically elected governor of the Salt rich state, the NGOs and CSOs were preoccupied with provisions of —sustainable skills aquisitions— empowerment of women, widows, youths— indigent people.

“The curve —with Umahi on the saddle of governance, has been flattened given the massive empowerments embarked upon by Ebonyi State Government. The Coordinator observed that contrary to the submission that human capital development has been quashed by the Umahi administration, in 2016-2018, the government of David Umahi distributed 4,000 tricycles, disbursed 4bn for various empowerment programnes based on the enumerated data of street hawkers in the streets of Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers States—startups.”

Further enumerating performance of Govenror Umahi, Azu said, “Between the date under reference, 400 Toyota Sienna multi-purpose vehicles were distributed.
Similarly, our Forum had queried the poor state of water supply in Ebonyi. The result of the complaints necessitated the ongoing reactivation of Oferekpe, Ezillo and Ukawu Water Schemes as we recently inspected the projects.”

The Coordinator said though constitution of Nigeria gives freedom of expression as Oluchukwu and his other persons had done such expression should be informed by existing reality.
