Edo state communities of Owan, Agbanikaka, Uhiere, Odiguetie, and Odighi, all in Ovia North-east local government area, Okuesan, Emu, Ugboha and Ewohimi all in Esan southeast, as well as Urohi in Esan west and the Akoko-Edo communities of Egbigere, Ikpeshi, Okpe, and Enwan will all have their lands given out for RUGA settlement f the All Progressive Congress, APC wins the governorship election in September.
Our investigations revealed that the candidate of the APC, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the sacked former national chairman of the party, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole has gone into a secret agreement with the governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje and a section of the Miyetti Allah to allow those communities lands to be taken over by the Fulani herds to us as RUGA settlement.
According to Olikareports it was gathered that these communities have been experiencing series of Fulani herdsmen invasion and attacks since 2016, with their farm products destroyed, women raped and killed.
Recall that the Otaru of Igarra, Oba Emmanuel Adeche Saiki II, had made an appeal to the federal and state governments to rescue the community from incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen, calling for the deployment of soldiers in the area. He lamented that their women are being raped every day in their farms, noting that farming, which is their major occupation, is dying because people no longer go to farms due to fear of being killed.
In 2019, following the decision of the Federal Government to establish “Ruga” settlements for Fulani herdsmen across the country, Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had insisted that the people of the state will resist any attempt to cede an inch of Edo land for the purpose, also, the governor of the state Mr. Godwin Obaseki had mentioned in 2019 that there`s no land in Edo state to be used for RUGA, this assertion was made even while he was still in the APC.
This latest revelation is causing apprehensions in these communities as their indigenes have vowed to resist any move to dash out their lands to the Fulani people.
A competent source who spoke to our correspondent in Kano revealed that the governor Kano agreed to the chairman the campaign council and fund the election when the agreement was reached to release lands in the three senatorial zones of Edo state if APC candidate Ize-Iyamu wins the September 19 governorship election, which they said would allow the Fulanis to settle in Edo North, Central and South to avoid more bloodshed.
A former Special Assistant to the Kano state governor who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity informed that the agreement was reached in the Asokoro Kano State governor`s lodge in Abuja.
Also, Mr. Unuane Oregie Ohue, an indigene of Okhuesan told our correspondent that giving their lands out to the Fulanis for settle simply means that they would be forcefully driven out of their ancestral land and vowed to resist it.
He said: “We are predominantly farmers in Okhuesa and our lands are where we carry out this our only means of livelihood, currently, we battle with these herders daily who come in with their cattle to destroy our farms and eat up our crops”.
“They are now thinking of giving out our lands for RUGA, they will kill all first, as we will use everything in us to resist it”.
“The rumour is everywhere that APC plans to give our lands to Fulani if they win, but God will not allow them to win, our ancestors will not allow them”, Mr. Ohue added.
