ASABA-The Delta State Chief Vendor, and oldest surviving Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Delta State Council, Chief Sir Ubaka Utomi Onianwa had been honored with a Meritorious Award of Excellence on his exploits towards Youth Mentorship, empowerment and sponsorship over the years.
This was disclosed to our reporter today to Asaba as the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria State Council led by its President, Sir Anthony Akaraiwe, A.g State Secretary/Organizing, Evang. Ibraham Ejiogu during the investiture and Award ceremony recognizing Chief Sir Ubaka Utomi Onianwa as the oldest Patron of the Council in the State, the event which took place in Asaba, Delta State capital.
Historically Speaking, Boys’ Brigade was founded on October 4th, 1883 by Williams .A. Smith in Glasgow Scotland, and thereafter in the year 1908 came into existence in the country during pre- colonial era as the first Uniform Christian Voluntary Youth Organization in Nigeria.
Delta BB Boss attested that Chief Ubaka as the oldest living Boys’Brigade Patron in Delta State, no doubt had shown examplary Leadership in the State Council and Nigeria in general over the years to emerged as the oldest in history with track records of Youth Mentorship, empowerment and Sponsorship with Excellence performance.
Sir Anthony while performing the investiture in that event alongside his State Secretary, a senior Police Officer Stated that Sir Ubakaeze Utomi Onianwa merited the Award having lived up to expectations of the Council’s fundamental objectives which stipulates thus: Advancing Christ’s Kingdom amongst boys and promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and others, also to lead boys into the services of our Lord Jesus Christ and his Churches throughout the nation; which he said is anchored on two Pillars such as “Discipline and religion”.
Chief Sir Ubakaeze Utomi Onianwa after receiving the meritorious Award responded to the gesture with a Million thanks to the entire Delta State Council of Boys’ Brigade Nigeria who came out en mass from the 25 LGAs of Delta State with sounds of triumph, musical doxology, unending merriment, hearts full of gladness and Military posture to Celebrate one of their own for the uncountable decades of his Youth Mentorship, empowerment and Sponsorship.
Chief Sir Utomi Onianwa, added that the Award will no doubt spurr him yo do more for the Council that he is still very active and lively even as the oldest BB member, also that the blood is still flow to continue his good works for Community development services, Excellent Volunteerism spirit towards societal development and for the betterment of the Society.
