Joseph Evah, a human right activist and the Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group took to the news this morning condemning the actions of the Federal and Lagos State Government on the destruction of the popular Takwa Bay beach. The Island is an artificial sheltered beach located near the Lagos harbour. Due to its island status, it is only accessible by boat or water taxis. The beach, popular with swimmers and water-sports enthusiasts, also has a welcoming resident community consisting of the Ijaws and Iajes ethnical groups.
The destruction of the community’s homes came with no relocation plans for the residents rendering them homeless instantly. According to Evah.
