Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed concern for the destruction caused by flooding in parts of the state.
One person was killed and over 100 houses destroyed by flooding on Monday in Dindima village, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The flooding also wreaked havoc in the Liman Katagum, Bauchi Local Government Area.
Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless following last Thursday’s flooding which destroyed over 300 homes in Shira and Zaki local government areas.
In a statement by his spokesman, Dr Ladan Salihu, in a statement on Wednesday, the governor said he was saddened by the damage caused by flooding in the state.
The statement said Mohammed “is deeply saddened by this unfortunate development which has caused devastation to many families”.
The governor directed the contractors handling road projects in the state to clear the major drains to prevent flooding.
The statement said, “The governor hereby appeals to citizens to assist in combating the flood by desilting drainage and avoid piling rubbish at the side of the road.”
