Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, has finally reacted to the arrest of the leader of The Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. Nasir El-Rufai disclosed that he was happy about the arrest because of two reasons.
Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, announced that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in a foreign country by joint efforts of Nigerian security bodies and Interpol. Abubakar Malami also announced the continuation of Nnamdi Kanu’s trial.
However, in an interview with BBC Pidgin, Nasir El-Rufai reacted to the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu by saying was happy for two reasons. Firstly, he spoke about the fact that Kanu jumped bail and put his surety in danger. He said Senator Abaribe could have been jeopardized because he was Nnamdi Kanu’s Surety. He went on to say that jumping bail is a crime, and no legal system should support that.
Secondly, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai spoke about how Nnamdi Kanu challenged the sovereignty of the country. He accused Nnamdi Kanu of inciting violence by directing people to burn down police stations, attack prisons, and release prisoners. He said Kanu calls Nigeria a Zoo and has insulted every government official. El-Rufai frowned at Nnamdi Kanu’s decision to encourage destruction and battle while he sits in a foreign country. Speaking further, El-Rufai said Kanu has violated many Nigerian laws and will be in court.
El Rufai went on to congratulate the Federal Government for the successful arrest of the Nnamdi Kanu. He also said the arrest should be a message to other separatists challenging the authority of Nigeria.
