Governor Hope Uzodimma Inaugurates Members Of The Imo State Law Reform Commission

His Excellency, the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has inaugurated members of the Imo State Law Reform Commission (LRC) and charged them to swing into action with immediate effect in order to swiftly reposition the State in line with Global best practices on law reforms and peculiarity.

The Commission which was established by the Imo State Law No 41 of 2019, has the statutory membership of the Attorney General of Imo State and Honourable Commissioner for Justice as the Chairman and the Permanent Secretary, Imo State Ministry of Justice as Secretary. In all, the members of the Commission as inaugurated today are:

  1. Hon. Barr. C.O.C Akaolisa – Chairman
  2. Barr. Mrs E.C Aguta – Secretary
  3. Hon. Justice Ngozi B Ukoha (Rtd) – Member
  4. Chief Sir Edozie Uche Nwanjo – Member
  5. Barr. Simeon Ikechukwu Azuama – Member

In addition to other responsibilities assigned by the establishing laws, the Commission is saddled with keeping under review all Imo State Laws with a view to their systematic and progressive development and reforms in consonance with the prevailing norms of the society.

In his speech, His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma charged members of the Commission to collate all laws of Eastern Nigeria from 1963 as applicable to Imo State and all other Laws of Imo State from 1976, domesticate and harmonize these into Laws of Imo State so that a discontinuation of Laws of Eastern Nigeria quotation in our Law Courts would take effect.

His Excellency expressed confidence in the qualities and personalities of members of the Commission as he believes they would deliver on this onerous task.
