Gunmen yesterday stormed the home of John Egla, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in Lafia, Nasarawa State and abducted him. Egla’s abduction has brought to three, the number of pastors abducted in the state in recent times.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nansel Ramham, said the victim was abducted in his residence at Shabubu in the early hours of yesterday. Ramham said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Shabu Police Station, and his men, while on patrol, heard gunshots about 1.16a.m.
The policemen moved swiftly to the area to ascertain what was going on. The PPRO explained that on arriving at the area, policemen discovered that the gunmen had abducted the pastor, leaving his family in shock. He said: “The police found six empty shells of AK47 ammunition at the scene of the incident. The police have deployed a team to rescue the victim and bring the perpetrators to book.”
