The Phobians went into the match on the back of two successive defeats from the first two matches of the season. Now in need of a win to get their campaign back on track, the Accra-based side put up an impressive performance to see off the club from Cape Coast.
Having started the match very well, the Rainbow lads took a deserved lead on the 29th minute with a strike from star man Joseph Esso. The attacker curled an effort straight from a free-kick position after Kofi Kordzi had been brought down.
Hearts of Oak continued to dominate play but were not able to add to their tally before going into the halftime break.
After returning from recess, the home team looked energized and surged forward in search of another goal to put the game to bed. In the first ten minutes, their free-flowing football attracted applause from fans at the Stadium who cheered the team on.
On the 56th minutes, striker Kofi Kordzi scored from a free-kick position similar to the one that resulted in the team’s first goal.
Now in control, complacency set in and allowed Ebusua Dwarfs to gain confidence. The away team finally found a way past their hosts and scored through Albert Ato Hammond to reduce the deficit.
At the end of the 90 minutes, Hearts of Oak emerged as 2-1 winners to earn their first 3 points of the season.
