Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has said that the killings by local and foreign herdsmen was what gave birth to the militant wing of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), known as ESN (Eastern Security Network).
Umahi, however, said that he may not agree with the formation of the ESN, adding that the only recognised security outfit setup to tackle the security challenges posed by the herdsmen in the region is Ebubeagu.
Umahi disclosed this when he was special guest at the State House Press Briefing in Abuja last week, where he shared his opinions about issues concerning the security challenges facing the Southeastern part of the country.
He also said the regional security outfit, Ebubeagu, recently launched by the South-East governors was not formed to kill herders, adding that the outfit is meant to protect the people of the South-east.
He said: “We don’t want herders killed, but neither should they violate our cultural values. That was why we formed Ebube Agu, which is a kind of regional security group. If you cause problems in any part of the South East, Ebube Agu will deal with you, no matter who you are. It has been signed into law to protect our people.”
