A former governor of Kogi state, Chief Clarence Olafemi, has threatened to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his decision to high rate of impunity in the party.
Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi state Sunday, Chief Olafemi said he will soon dump PDP for APC, lamenting that PDP has cheated on him on several occasions , stressing that he could not continue to stay in the party in the circumstance.
The former governor pointed out that he is one of the key members of the party in the state, stressing however that the National Working Committee of the party failed to recognise his inputs.
“I was the running mate to Jubril Issah Echocho in the 2015 governorship primaries of the party but we were later replaced by the party which brought in Capt Idris Wada and Yomi Awoniyi as running mate without reason.
“In 2019 general election, I was one of the senatorialaspirants from kogi West. I was denied from contesting as the party imposed Senator Dino Melaye who just decamped from APC back to PDP.
“My governorship aspirant in the just concluded primary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Idris, was denied the governorship ticket of the party by some powers that be in the party and gave victory to Engr. Musa Wada who has never invested kobo in the party.
“This is a clear indication that they hate Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the former governor of the state who has been the strong leader of PDP in the state.
“With all this impunity, how do you expect me to continue staying in PDP? I’m not the first person to decamp from one party to another. President Muhammadu Buhari and my mentor, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku all decamped from one party to another. I’m not going to be the first or the last.
” Yes I had a fruitful discussion with Governor Yahaya Bello and I’m very satisfied with the outcome of our meeting.”
Chief Olafemi who was also former Speaker of Kogi state Assembly, said he will follow the due process in defecting to APC, noting that he will do it openly.
