Imo: Is Hon. Paul Emeziem Bent On Implementing The Impeachment And State Of Emergency Agenda?

Hon. Paul Emeziem

By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A

Some people that are inclined towards crime and other anti-social activities often fail to do a good job of their nefarious plans. They fail by leaving all sorts of tell-tale signs that give them and their ulterior motives away. It’s such that it won’t require deep digs to discover evidences that implicate them with culpable complicity in the negative act.

The drama at the Imo State House of Assembly in the last week or thereabouts has comprehensively introduced the impeached former Speaker, Paul Emeziem, in bad light as having all his fingers, hands, toes and legs deep in some clandestine pit of anti-social Bay anti-Imo activities with regards to his present calling as a lawmaker.

It all began with the alleged unethical conspiracy by the then Speaker, Paul Emeziem, to unceremoniously impeach his then Deputy, Amara Iwuanyanwu. A crack team of investigative writers and journalists took it upon themselves to dig into the possible reason(s) for the unparliamentary conduct of the House, superintended by the Speaker.

The findings by the pro-Imo media team proved that there was an alleged grand conspiracy that was allegedly orchestrated by some power mongers in the State, in collaboration with the the Speaker and some leaders of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State. Much of the findings had since been reported widely in the media, particularly the social media.

However, by way of summary and rehash, it was discovered that the Speaker was allegedly uploaded with the sum of $300,000 (Three hundred thousand dollars) or N168 million by the power mongers to use in enticing some other members of the House to effect some crucial and critical impeachment agenda that was allegedly orchestrated at Abuja Sheraton Hotels in a meeting that was alleged to have been personally attended by the ousted Speaker, Paul Emeziem.

The impeachment plans were for the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, which when successful would be quickly followed by the commencement by the House of impeachment processes against the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Also, it was discovered by the independent media team that in the nefarious package was the Option B which was to be activated in the event of the failure of the impeachment plan against the governor. It entailed that enough social strife by way of massive protests and mayhem will be allegedly ignited and unleashed by the gang across the State with the aim of securing the attention of the Federal Government and subtly forcing it to declare a state of emergency in the State and instituting a Sole Administrator to take charge of the running and working of the State.

The team found out that while the alleged main target was the governor, the continued service of the Deputy Speaker was a big barrier to the plans. Hence, we were informed by an impeccable insider source that the gang agreed to get the Deputy Speaker out of the way via the instrumentality of phantom impeachment. Then, the grand impeachment of the governor may ensue in the House.

We were reliably informed by other insider sources that while the then Speaker was to supervise the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker and the Governor by the gang in the House, another gang in Abuja was to supervise the massive protests and mayhem that would sponsor the declaration of state of emergency in the State.

Be that as it may, the prompt convening of an emergency plenary of the House on the arrival of the then Speaker, Paul Emeziem, from Abuja ended up in the attempted impeachment of the Deputy Speaker which failed ayakata like a park of plastic cards, as it failed the integrity test of due process, rule of law, and stipulated legislative ethics and procedures. It was failed on arrival!

For instance, all that was observed, according to a source at the House, was that a motion was tabled by the member representing Orsu State Constituency, declaring that some undisclosed 18 members had endorsed the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker. Rather than subject the supposed motion to due process, we were told that the then Speaker, Paul Emeziem, hastily adopted the motion and hammered the gavel declaring the motion passed and that the Deputy Speaker has been impeached for no reason whatsoever., for no reason was proffered for the obviously deliberately orchestrated mission.

That act was to provide the strong red flag that the then Speaker must have had an ulterior motive as exposed by the intel report. Otherwise, why was he too desperate and hasty to implement the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker, without reason. We further learned that the suspicious hurry was to hasten the actual impeachment process against the Governor to commence as planned so that on or before December 31, 2021 he must have been eased out of office.

The added evidence that the then Speaker was on a negative mission against the governor and by extension the State was found in the fact that after the purported impeachment of the Deputy Speaker, there was no replacement for him as should be the case under normal circumstances. And for over one week before the retributive impeachment of the obviously compromised Speaker, no replacement was provided for the office of the Deputy Speaker.

On Monday, November 8, 2021 the House was duly convened for an emergency matter of urgent importance. The plenary was to end in the legal and legitimate impeachment of the Speaker, Paul Emeziem, with a motion for impeachment that was signed by 19 out of the 27 members of the House, who were physically present and observed all conditions for the legal and legitimate impeachment of principal officer. The era of Hon. Paul Emeziem came to an abrupt end with charges OF gross misconduct, fraud, high-handedness, vindictiveness, and incompetence, etcetera.

It’s significant that moments after the ex-Speaker, Paul Emeziem, was impeached, a new Speaker was elected in the person of Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh, the Honourable member representing Obowo State Constituency. And the members there and then declared a vote of confidence in Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, endorsing him to continue to serve as the Deputy Speaker.

That was where the narratives were before the rumour started oozing around the State via the social media that the impeached ex-Speaker, Paul Emeziem, had closed ranks and regrouped with some members of the House as a faction to foment further troubles for the legislative arm of the Government of Imo State.

The quasi-mutiny of Hon. Paul Emeziem and his pocket of accomplices reflected in the rumoured suspension of the new duly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu and the Majority Leader, Hon. Onyemachi.

Though, Collins Osuji, Chief Press Secretary to Paul Emeziem, came out with a prompt denial of the rumour of the suspension of the lawmakers that was gaining impetus on the social media, he didn’t say anything about the faction created by his principal, who still paraded himself as the Speaker at the time.

That act drew the irk of many stakeholders in the State, who severally and variously condemned in strong terms the act of allegedly factionalizing the Imo Legislature by Hon. Paul Emeziem. It was regarded as an condemnable act of sabotage of the Government of Imo State by Hon. Paul Emeziem and his gang.

Meanwhile, as if in confirmation of the intel report that implicated some Imo PDP leaders in league with others at large, including a former governor and a serving senator as sponsoring the impeachment drives against the governor and ultimately sponsoring the declaration of state of emergency in the State, notable media spokesperson of Imo PDP, Hon. Aic Akwarandu was Tuesday, November 9, 2021 reported by a major Imo-based newspaper “The Watchdog” to have advocated for the National Assembly (NASS) to takeover of Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA) as a response to the developments in the House.

What all of the above portends is that the drums of the macabre dance that Hon. Paul Emeziem is currently dancing at IMHA is being sounded by some power mongers who are hell bent at making Imo State ungovernable and presenting the State in bad light before the world, and thereby securing a state of emergency that will willy-nilly ensure the ouster of Governor Uzodimma from office on or before December 31, 2021 as the intel report articulated.

It may be recalled that according to our insider source findings, the sole aim and objective of the issues and matters arising at IMHA are tailored towards evicting Governor Uzodimma from office by all means humanly possible.

The agenda in summary is to impeach the governor or to see to his ouster via the instrumentality of state of emergency. Incidentally, his feeble debunk of the allegations notwithstanding, Hon. Paul Emeziem hasn’t succeeded in convincing stakeholders that the smoke in the IMHA doesn’t have a fire that he knows about.

Instructively, Governor Hope Uzodimma has remained aloof and refusing to dabble into the internal conflicts of the House, whereby the play on the power game has peacefully been raging without any untoward actions and incidents.

However, in the words of a reputable pundit, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer, Governor Uzodimma would do well to wade into the healthy rivalry in the House with a view of calming frayed nerves and restoring normalcy to the leadership and running of the House”.

That’s why it becomes germane for Hon. Paul Emeziem to calm down and adjust to the developments in the House, which has warranted his removal as Speaker by his colleagues that elected him ab initio. Violent conducts pay nobody any desirable dividend at the end, especially by leaders who are expected to be advocates and champions of love and peace.

By God’s grace, Imo State must be rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered!!
