Kidnappers abduct Senator Gershom Bassey’s aide in Calabar

                       

Some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Personal Assistant (PA) to Senator Gershom Bassey, Mr. Simon Umera.

Senator Gershom Bassey is the current flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Cross River Southern Senatorial District.

Mr Umera was kidnapped on Thursday night at Jebbs area in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Ekeng Inyang, Umera was shot by the kidnappers before he was later taken into a speed boat same night.

“The incident happened on Thursday night in his home at Jebbs. He was shot by the kidnappers and forced into a speed boat through the Anantigha waters,” he said.

When contacted on phone on Friday, Senator Gershom Bassey confirmed the abduction and assured the friends and family of his personal assistant of his release.

“Mr Umera would be rescued from the hands of the abductors despite their demand of a ransom of 10 million naira before he can released,” he said.

All efforts to get reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene Ugbo proved abortive. She did not pick calls from our correspondent nor respond to text message sent to her.
