Ahead of the December 18th local Government area of Abia State, All Progressives Congress, APC, Chairmanship Aspirant for Umuahia North LGA, Barrister Ugochukwu Ndubuka, has cried out over alleged irregularities that marred the just concluded primary election of the party.

Ndubuka demanded the cancellation of the Chairmanship primary election held on 15th November 2020, insisting that no primaries was conducted for the Chairmanship position of Umuahia North local government area of Abia State.

The Renowned lawyer alleged that the APC LG Chairman, Mr. Israel Nwachukwu with some executive members of the party adopted his opponent, Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna as sole candidate, which according to him, violated the laid down guidelines set out by the State leadership of the party.

Ndubuka, who made his feelings known during an interaction with newsmen in Umuahia, Tuesday, claimed that the party executive officers in Umuahia North LGA were induced to subvert the electoral process and return Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna as candidate of their choice against him.

According to him, “I wish to express my dismay over the conduct of some members of the Executives of Umuahia North Local Government Area of APC on primary election slated for 15/11/2020.

“I recall that the state conducted the screening exercise on the 14/11/2020 and that a petition was served on me by some members of the party the same day, calling for a disqualification of Nnenna Ogbonna on allegations of stealing, fraud, Misappropriation of funds and conversion of properties.

“That on the evening of 14/11/2020, that the LGA executives headed the LGA chairman, Mr. Israel Nwachukwu and his vice, Ekwuruibe Uwanuakwa with other members of the campaign team of Nnenna Ogbonna comprising Queen Anikpe, Princewill Ukaegbu, Engr. Onyemachi atc, who met with Mrs Nnenna Ogbonna at her residence and adopted her as their sole candidate. It was gathered that it was agreed by this group that the LGA Chairman Umuahia North and Mr. Chibueze Apugo, and others mentioned above to personally conduct the primary election and to force the delegate to vote in the primary election for Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna as the consensus candidate of the party, this was after they shared three million naira to themselves.

“It is an open secret that Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna is being sponsored by members of PDP in the state and that is why she was rolling out #100,000.00 to every ward in the local government and shared three million naira to some members of the Executives loyal to her including the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Chibueze Apugo, the State Youth leader, and others with a view to assist her to be adopted without carrying out the proper exercise of the primary election.

“On the day of the primary election, the various ward chairmen were not allowed to carry out their duty of conducting the primary election , rather it was the LGA Chairman who went the entire wards to inform them that Mrs. Nnenna Ogbonna has been adopted as a sole candidate and if any of the ward executive votes against her, that such a person will be removed as a party official.

“The question that begs for an answer is whether the party appointed the LGA Chairman,Mr. Israel Nwachukwu and Chibueze Apugo to form the primary electoral panel and to personally conduct the primary election in all the ward of the LGA’s or is it the duty of the wards to conduct their primary under the supervision of a returning officer, and the results sent to the LGA offices where it will be recieved by the party chairman?

“Why should the party chairman adopt a candidate who he has announced severally in various meetings that she is the choice of the party to be a returning officer and conducting the primary election by himself, holding the pictures flex of Nnenna Ogbonna and sharing money to people all with the sole intention that the primary election will not hold as it should be properly done, “Barrister Ndubuka concluded.
