Masterminds of Owerri Chief Priest’s abduction face community sanctions

…Get 48hour ultimatum to free him or…
…Houses, shops tied with palm fronds
Umuihugba Umuodu Autonomous community has come down heavily on the people that masterminded the abduction of the Chief Priest of Owerri Nchi Ise, Onyeishiala Reginald Ejiogu.
The Chief Priest who according to Owerri custom and tradition, is the eyes of the gods, was abducted on Saturday, 18th December alongside Umunwagbara Village Chairman, Sir Sunny Unachukwu on Christ Church Road, Owerri.
Both men were said to have been whisked away by three heavily armed men in a tinted hummer bus.
Nigerian Newsguide learnt that their whereabouts remained unknown until Sunday evening when Sir Unachukwu called the President General of Umuodu Autonomous Community, Sir Soronnadi Unegbu to inform him that their abductors took them to Abuja and seized their phones at the point of abduction.
Although details of the Chief Priest’s abduction is still sketchy, sources told Nigerian Newsguide that his abduction was not unconnected with the lingering Ezeship crisis in the community and the ‘Ihu Ala’ Owerri Building Project.

Rising from an emergency meeting of Umuodu Autonomous Community yesterday, December 20, presided by the PG, members of the community listed those behind the abduction of the Chief Priest and Sir Sunny Unachukwu as (1) Barr. Gilbert Ihebom, (2) Ferdinand Anoruo (3) Iheanacho Ebere (4) Chukwuma Anyaso (5) Francis Igwe and (6) Kingsley Ejiogu.
The community agreed that the six accused persons must be made to face the full consequences of their action.
The community members including the youths and elders visited houses and shops of the accused persons where they tied palm fronds at their entrance gates, as the elders invoked the anger of the gods on them should they fail to free the Chief Priest within the next 48 hours.
Efforts made to speak with any of the accused persons proved abortive, as they were nowhere to be found as at press time.
