The Governor-elect in Ogun state, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, on Monday declared that his government would give the state a focused and qualitative governance that is responsive, open and accountable to the people.
Abiodun added that his government would proactively create and promote the enabling environment for a public-private sector partnership to engender rapid industrialisation and infrastructural development.
The successful entrepreneur and real estate player who noted that the governorship race was tough and the task challenging, explained that rapid industrialisation and infrastructural development are fundamental to the creation of an enduring economic development and the individual prosperity of Ogun people.
He made this known in his country home in Iperu Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state, while reading his acceptance speech before a plethora of reporters, some hours after he was declared winner of the last Saturday governorship election.
He lauded President Muhammadu Buhari, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Baba and one of the foremost progressives in Nigeria, Aremo Olusegun Osoba for their support and encouragement that brought about his victory.
He also thanked party members in Ogun State, friends, associates, members of the Dapo Abiodun Campaign Organization (DACO), volunteers, media men and women, security agencies and all those who made the collective victory possible.
Abiodun also assured that his governorship ambition and subsequent victory was not for personal vendetta against outgoing Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The oil magnate noted that while his period of persecution before becoming the governor-elect lasted, he neither exhibited nor utter any negative comments against Amosun.
“Anger does not have a place in my heart. I believe the people of Ogun State have spoken and so be it. The governorship journey wasn’t because of Amosun or Abiodun but about the people of Ogun State and so, that was why I kept telling the people of Ogun State to vote for us. It is purely about the state,” he said.
He equally explained that the valuable support of his candidature from former Gbenga Daniel, was borne out of personal friendship.
“Our people in Ogun East felt it is the time for us to produce the next governor and that was what Otunba Daniel worked for.”
“In 2002, during the gubernatorial primaries that produced Daniel as PDP candidate for the 2003 election, I came second to OGD and so, Daniel felt since I supported him then, he should reciprocate the gesture and that was what he did.
“Though the race was tough, the challenge tasking, the odds enormous and the obstacles were many, but to God be all the glory for this divine victory which is for all the good people of Ogun.
“Campaigns and elections are now over and it is time to start harnessing the huge God-given human and natural resources of our State, for rapid development for the overall interest and benefits of our people.
“To my fellow contestants, we have all participated to the best of our abilities in vying for the exalted office, which can only be occupied by one person at a time.
“I therefore, most humbly, and unconditionally, extend my hand of fellowship to my compatriots from other parties, and indeed, all those who contested with me at the APC primaries for the party ticket, which I won.
“Like our slogan during the campaign, “Igbega Ipinle Ogun, ajose gbogbo wa ni”. The development of Ogun State is the collective duty of all. With the love of Ogun in our hearts, we all have something to offer and our government will be more than willing to take the benefits of shared knowledge and experience.
“Our government, your government, shall give Ogun State a focused and qualitative governance that is responsive, open and accountable to the people.
“For rapid industrialization and infrastructural development, we will proactively create and promote the enabling environment for a public private sector partnership, which is fundamental to the creation of an enduring economic development and the individual prosperity of Ogun people.
“We shall also focus on development of agriculture and rural roads in order to increase the output of food and cash crops, create wealth for real farmers and ease the movement of farm produce to the markets within and outside the state while generating revenue.
“The local government administration is the closest to the people and we will return relevance to this third tier of government in Ogun State and create a beneficial synergy that will quicken the pace of development in our local government areas.
“Ogun State is well blessed with resources heavily deposited across the state. We shall explore these resources in the overall interest of our people. We will run a government of all and for all. A government that will fair and equitable in the spread of infrastructural development goal across the state.
“We shall place a premium on human capital development of the generality of our people, including workers and civil servants. For us, our people shall be first in governance.”
