It was the great Zik who reassured Chief Jim Nwobodo, Governor of Anambra State in the Second Republic that as an achiever, he the Governor was bound to have jealous detractors. Dr Azikiwe advised Nwobodo to simply remain focused in serving the people. As the November 2021 governorship election approaches and the Anambra opposition groups increase their noise making, let our action Governor, Chief Willie Obiano take heed of Zik’s counsel to Jim Nwobodo.
Obiano is Anambra State’s best Governor since the creation of the State in 1991. Things can only get better in Anambra under Obiano.
Anambra is adjudged one of the safest places in Nigeria by security experts. To date, it’s the only State that parades digital surveillance cameras as part of its security network. The high level of safety of lives and property has since brought continued influx of investors into the State.
The injection of billions of dollars investments has created huge job opportunities as well as lifted the economy of the State. Things can only get better.
Obiano has built massive infrastructure facilities in Anambra. No less than 1000 kilometres of roads have been built and maintained. 15 bridges and 3 flyovers have been been constructed by Governor Obiano’s administration. Just two weeks ago, the Otuocha and Uga water schemes were commissioned for use. The entire State is made aglow at night through the administration’s light up Anambra campaign.
The present government has intervened in at least 35 erosion sites across the State to protect the environment from degradation. St Pius Primary School, Ifite, Nimo, my town is a beneficiary of the intervention works against flooding and soil erosion.
In the past six years of the present government, Anambra has maintained educational excellence. The State has consistently recorded second best position in WAEC and NECO exams with many state schools winning international competitions. The open secret as everyone knows is massive investment in education by the Obiano led government.
Healthcare centres in the State continue to receive upgrading. The Onitsha General Hospital was transformed into a real specialist institution by Gov Obiano. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital continues to grow from strength to strength. It has the only oxygen manufacturing plant in the south east. It has one of the best mega laboratories in the country, courtesy of Obiano. It was the Obiano administration that speeded up accreditation and ensured graduation of 13 doctors who spent ten years as medical students.
It is sometimes forgotten that the Obiano administration achieved all these even with a debt of N127b it inherited from the Peter Obi administration.
The success story of the Obiano administration stretches to every sector. It is therefore unfortunate that political partisanship will lead some Ndi Anambra into being at cross purposes with the State’s developmental journey.
The same ambitious politicians who took the State Government to court on the issue of local government elections are now turning round to blame the Government for non conduct of council polls. Until the courts dispose of the cases, there is nothing the Governor can do.
The allegation of sectionalism in appointment and projects is one that EVERY GOVERNOR of Anambra State has faced. It’s a preoccupation of Anambra’s political fault finders and others seeking to be noticed. In one breath they say that the fact Obiano’s area has nothing special to show for his governorship is proof that zoning has no merits. Then when it suits them, they say he is favouring his people.
I am thankful to Governor Willie Obiano that my town has three Special Assistants in his government and that we have benefited from three road projects, among other goodies.
Anambra State can only get better.
