Refer to our Press Release of Monday 27th April, 2020 on our porous interstate borders, extortions to facilitate passage at Bridge Head and Nsukka axis and charge to effected Governors to take charge and rejig their security architecture in those areas. In line with the above, we want to thank the Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his spontaneous response by going beyond our expectations within 24 hours. We want other border affected Governors to please do same for our collective safety.
It is no news that many people died and are still dying in numbers at the ancient city of Kano, Northern Nigeria. The deaths knew no bounds as some Ndigbo were also casualties. What is news is that some of our kith and kin in Kano have concluded arrangements to move the corpses about (8) in the first instance to different parts of Ala Igbo for burial through mere notes for ease of passage. The far reaching implications of this planned activities on the general health of the travellers, the corpses, recipient families and mourners cannot be overemphasized in Igboland.
Further to the above, we call first on Kano State government not to approve such dangerous movements. Secondly, the highway security agents must be mandated to halt such movements and turn conveyers back to base. Thirdly, Corpses should be kept where the death occur till health normalcy returns or burial should take place at such locations where it occurred. Fourthly, all Igbos at this point must be vigilante to avoid infiltrations meant at denting our God intervened situation of Southeast having the least number of infected persons with zero death record.
In addition to all the above, Enugu State government through the expanded surveillance Team as announced by the government should beam intense searchlight on the alleged deployment of trucks belonging to a popular Cement company in secretly moving Northern brothers into Southeast especially Enugu at night. Same goes to the illegal use of some food trucks as well. The Enugu State government should deploy Intelligence and health officials to Artisan Asata to ascertain the veracity of the allegation of mass movement into Enugu in the last couple of days and probably conduct random COVID-19 tests. We welcome cross movements of fellow citizens but the ban on interstate governments by both Federal and State governments must be strictly adhered to.
Our Traditional rulers, Presidents of various Town Unions, the Churches, Age grades, Non indigenes, Women groups must rise up and resist any form of burial of imported corpses in their domains at this time. Northerners must not welcome their folks coming into southeast at this critical time too.
Finally, we challenge every well meaning southeast resident irrespective of nationality, tribe and religion to join in this crusade to safeguard our land and environment against further spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the world.
