Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC have shot to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Group A following their 10 defeat of Remo Stars in Osogbo on Wednesday.
This is the Olukoya Boys first away win in the season.
Adeniji Kabiru scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute and all efforts by the Sky Blue to level up proved abortive. MFM now have 10 points from six matches and they are atop Group A with Rivers United in second place with nine points. Rivers United played goalless with visiting Gombe United in Port Harcourt.
In the result of other matches played on Wednesday, Go Round FC defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 in Omoku, while Kada City continued their fine run in their debut season in the topflight with a 2-1 defeat of El-Kanemi Warriors in Kaduna.
In an Oriental derby between Heartland and Abia Warriors in Umuahia, the Ochendo Boys edged the Naze Millionaires 1-0, while FC IfeanyiUbah whipped Gombe United 2-0 in Nnewi
Meanwhile, Enyimba FC are after the three points in their Thursday night game against Wikki Tourist in Gombe.
The team’s defender, Stanley Okorom, who gave this charge, urged his teammates to go for the maximum points in Gombe. This, he said, will help the team cut down pressure in subsequent home matches.
Enyimba have yet to record a result on the road this season, with their previous away outings ending in loses to Kwara United and Rangers.
Okorom is, however, confident that they possess enough quality to grab the spoils in Gombe.
“Our last game against Rivers United came with so much pressure because we were on a poor run. It’s easier when you come into a match without that kind of pressure, that’s why I appreciate the fans for their support,” he said.
“Now we have to start picking away points. If we are able to win away, we’ll be more confident when we return to play at home.
“Away games are very important in the league. When you get your away three points and maybe pocket your home games, you will see yourself being on top.
“But whenever you lose away it will be a lot of pressure on the home match because you will do everything to win. If you win away you come back home with a lot of confidence, so we need to win away.
“I know that tomorrow (Thursday) it’s going to be our victory. With the calibre of players we have, I know we are going to win tomorrow.”
