Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concern about disunity among traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
Obasanjo stated this on Sunday while speaking at the coronation of the new Agura of Gbagura, Oba Saburee Bakre. in Ago-Oka, Abeokuta.
The former President in his goodwill message urged traditional rulers in Ogun State to come together and bring unity and development to the state.
Obasanjo, however, warned the new first-class Oba against listening to wrong advisers on issues that concern the development and peace of Aguraland.
The former President, who is the Jagunmolu of Egbaland, urged the new monarch to think out of the box for the development of Gbagura.
He said, “Kabiesi, you have a lot of work to do in Gbaguraland and Abeokuta as a whole.
“Our traditional rulers are not united enough and you did not have baggage because as you are just coming in; your hands are pure, you must ensure that everything about you is pure.
“Kabiesi, don’t let anybody tell you that they don’t do it this way; if you want to ensure that your reign brings peace and development to Gbagura, you may have to act out of the box.”
Obasanjo stressed that traditional rulers must be ready to help their governors if truly they wanted development in their domains.
He added, “Ensure that everyone comes together so that there can be development in Egbaland.
“The state government cannot do it alone; the state government needs your contribution for the development of the state.”
The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, expressed readiness to work with the new monarch to achieve peace and development in Egbaland.
The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, called on traditional rulers to assist the state government in achieving community development.
She also advised the monarch to work with other traditional rulers to ensure peace and development in Abeokuta.
