An Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has warned politicians and security agencies against distimination of unsubstantiated media reports to instigate chaos in order to give room for State of Emergency rule in Abia State.
Ohanaeze frowned at the lastest activities of some disgruntled politicians to incite members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, the citizenry, against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government with fake news and wicked propaganda.
The warning came against the backdrops of a trending and viral online media reports quoted Governor Ikpeazu as blaming IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu for the abandonment of Abia State by the current federal government over persistent agitation for Biafra Republic by the latter.
But, reacting in a telephone interview, with DAILY POST on Wednesday, the Abia Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, said there was no element of truth in the said media report and described peddlers of the fake news as cheap attention seekers.
However, OYC, in a press statement signed by its President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and forwarded to newsmen, in Umuahia, Wednesday, posited that the fake news was rogue operations sponsored by enemies of ndigbo with evil intention to instigate unhealthy rivalry between IPOB members and Abia State Government and as well, fuel crisis and then, influence declaration of state of emergency in Abia, with appointment of non-Igbo, as sole administrator.
“Ohanaeze had uncovered plot of some political musketeers using security agents to plant fake news in the media, with the evil intent to sow seeds of discord amongst Abians. The plot was hatched in Kaduna, Abuja and Lagos by some unscrupulous politicians acting with rogue security agents with eyes in 2023 Presidential election. The foes have planned to ensure that one of them emerge as the first Nigerian President of Igbo origin. They are out to destabilize the peace in the southeast, using Abia State to test run their mischievous plots by sponsoring fake news on Ikpeazu against Nnamdi Kanu.
“We wish to categorically warn all fifth columnists and these political musketeers to halt further actions towards instigating chaos in any part of South east zone, or We (youths) will be forced to unveil the identities of those sponsoring the serial attacks on one of the Governors of South East zone. Igbo youths had independently investigated the Issues discussed by Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu with press men through Zoom on Saturday. There was no place he mentioned the name of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as being responsible for the under development in Abia State”.
Meanwhile, as at the time of this report, efforts to reach the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Joefrey Ogbonna for comment on some claims by Ohanaeze was unfruitful.
