The All Progressive Congress,APC, in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has dismissed reported defection of its 400 members to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state.
Akelicious recall that about 400 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had dumped the party for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ubakala, Umuahia South local Government Area of the state.
The defectors were led by the APC Vice Chairmanship candidate in the December 18th 2020 LG poll held across the state, including executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP decampees during the declaration ceremony in Umuahia South LGA, last week, Comrade Ifeanyi Duke, explained that they were motivated to join PDP because of the massive infrastructural development executed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration, as well as the excellent performance of the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Chris Ezem.
But, APC chairman Ubakala Ward A, Mr. Ihuoma Madukaku while addressing journalists on Monday, in Umuahia, informed that only three members of the party cross carpeted to ruling PDP in Abia State.
The Party leadership insisted that the defection of the members would not affect the fortunes of party in Umuahia South and the state as a while, adding that it would afford APC the opportunity to continue with its strategy ahead of future General elections.
According to Abia APC, It is not true that four hundred of our party members join PDP. It was only three persons that defected to the PDP. The first person is Ifeanyi Duke. He is only two months in APC. He contested Local Government Vice Chairmanship seat election. The next person is the youth leader of the ward in the name of Nwachinemere Ndukauba and the third person is Mr. Anthony Okeobasi, one of our party ex-officio member from Mgbarakuma.
“There are only three persons. The other ones are rented crowd without political party, just stationed to fill the empty canopies used during their so called declaration event. The leadership of APC in Umuahia South and our members are intact and focused towards winning future election as well bringing dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people”.
On the upcoming APC Membership registration exercise, the APC chairman, Ihuoma Madukaku said the party would work with the guidelines outlined by the National Caretaker Executive Committee of APC to ensure hitch free exercise.
Madukaku assured that nobody will be sidelined in the upcoming Membership Registration and Revalidation exercise as the party has put in measures to ensure full participation of intending members.
“Let me degrate a little, by 2023 APC will take over those state. I will advise people to go and register and become members of APC. In our igbo adage, if you work, you reap your hardwork, but if you don’t work, you reaps nothing. I call on people to register in the progressive party by 2023, all of us will part take in the national cake.
“Nobody will be molested, deregister or deny registration in the exercise. I know most people are complaining that last 2024 registration exercise, people were molested at the various unit centre where the registration was being done”.
The Party Chieftain further used the medium and confirmed that a former Abia PDP Chairman, Chief Tony Ukasoanya remained a member of the party.
The APC Chairman disclosed that Chief Ukasoanya did not write formally to the APC leadership of withdrawal of his membership, reaffirming that the latter remained a card carrying member of APC in Abia State.
“Chief Ukasoanya who said is a member of PDP, is also a member of APC. Infact, his number is number one in the Membership Registration file”.
On his part, the immediate past member that represented Umuahia South state constitency in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Nwachukwu said APC leadership in Umuahia South LGA is not perturbed over the purported defection of their members to the ruling PDP in the state.
The ex-lawmaker reiterated that APC is unrelenting in its avowed commitment and determination to form next government in Abia, urging party stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support and shun any negative tendency that will undermine APC in the state.
