A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia State, has dumped the party for the governing All Progressive Congress, APC.
Hon. Onuigbo was a two-time Commissioner under the past administration of Former Governor Theodore Ahamefula Orji, now the Senator representing Abia central in the red chamber of Nigeria National Assembly.
The federal lawmaker was elected into the House of Representatives under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2015 and reelected for second term in the last 2019 general elections.
However, in a telephone interaction with Akelicious on Thursday, the Abia State Chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, confirmed the defection of the parliamentarian, Sam Onuigbo, adding that the APC leadership has concluded to receive him today(Thursday) to make official declaration his defection to the progressive party.
He said, “I am aware of the development. We had talks with him, but, we are waiting him today to come to the floor and make formal declaration”.
Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Abia State, Benedict Godson, has expressed concern on tomorrow’s election in the seventeen local Government Areas of the state.
Godson posited that the leadership of the APC does not have confidence in the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, of a transparent Local Government election on Friday, claimed that the State electoral umpire has been hijacked by the PDP-led administration in order to subvert the will of Abia electorates.
He berated ABSIEC on the deliberate disqualification of most candidates of the opposition political parties participating in the LGA poll, urging Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa-led electoral commission to jettison purported ploy with the powers that be, to thwart the exercise.
