Peace Committee Affirms Resolution Over Effium Crisis In Ebonyi State

The peace move by the Ebonyi State government, towards ending the lingering bloody communal crisis between two tribes, Effium and Ezzah-Effium in the Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State, has affirmed resolution against the conflict.

This follows the cease-fire agreement reached by both tribes in the area.

Speaking after the exercise held at the state old Exco chamber in Abakaliki, Governor Dave Umahi, represented by his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, said that it was understandable for people to occasionally have misunderstood, but it shouldn’t degenerate into the conflict level, as witnessed in the last few weeks at Effium community.

The Governor however believes that having resolved to end the hostilities in the community, the stakeholders will henceforth sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

Recalled that the two tribes in Effium community have been at each others throats since January 22, 2021, over a Motor park leadership tussle, which led to the wanton destruction of lives and property in the area.
