A 40-year-old man, Frederick Akinboboye, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for failing to produce his son in court for trial over alleged rape of a minor (names withheld).
Akinboboye who resides at Ojokoro, Lagos, is facing a two count charge of obstructing and perverting the course of justice before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi.
The Prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) told the court that Akinboboye committed the offence in November at Ojokoro Police Station, Lagos.
According to Ayorinde, the defendant allegedly conspired with his 15-year-old son to obstruct and pervert the course of justice.
He said that Akinboboye stood surety for his son, who was arrested for allegedly defiling a minor and impregnating her.
He told the court that his son was later released to him after he promised to produce him on November 26 and other subsequent dates till the case is finally disposed off.
He said the defendant however reneged on the promise and failed to produce his son to the police on November 26 when they demanded for him.
Akinboboye, however entered a `not-guilty’ plea when the charge was read to him.
Magistrate Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in the like sum.
She also ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidences of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government,
She thereafter adjourned the matter till January 8, 2019 for hearing.
