The Bayelsa State Police Command has commended the people in the state for showing maturity and restraint over the abrupt postponement of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The police command also lauded the people in the state for the political maturity they exhibited during the campaigns for the general elections.
In a statement on Monday by Asinim Butswat, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the police command urged them to maintain the culture of peace enthroned.
Butswat also assured stakeholders of the police command’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for the conduct of the re-scheduled poll on February 23 in Bayelsa.
He said the police command, in synergy with other security agencies, had intensified patrols and surveillance in all the nook and cranny of the state.
Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, warned miscreants and political thugs to desist from any act capable of disrupting the forthcoming rescheduled elections.
“The police will do everything within the ambit of the law to prosecute all electoral offenders”, he warned.
He also called on the electorate to go out and exercise their franchise by casting their votes for candidates of their choice on Saturday.
