Proposed Toll Gate: Matters Arising For South-East

Arising from the extraordinary National Executive Council meeting of NDI-IGBO UNITED FORUM (NUF) Worldwide held in Enugu in respect of the above subject matter,  the Forum decided as follows:

That we read, heard and watched like other Nigerians the announcement by Mr. Raji Fashola, Minister of Works about the proposed reintroduction of toll gate in Nigeria;

That we join other well meaning Nigerians to condemn the proposed tollgate as it will escalate the present untold hardship of motorists, passengers and average hardworking Nigerians;

That we want to assume that the spread of the proposed tollgate aimed at concentrating 59 spots in southeast is exaggerated jokes, beer parlor gossip and uncoordinated rumor mills best for free readers at open newspaper stand;

That commencement of tolling worldwide is usually the last phase of activity on completion of road networks;

That it will amount to exploitative, colonialism and task masterism compelling users to pay tolls on unmotorable and nonexistent roads;

That Mr Fashola as a courageous and intelligent man should replicate his boldness to tell the world the road(s) in southeast fit for tolling;

That for tolling to take place in Southeast, Mr Fashola should among others:

Complete the celebrated media roads in southeast; and

Sit with select southeast leaders to justify locations for tolling based on landmass, length of completed tollable roads in comparison to other zones and population of citizens residing in such locations;

That we enjoin Igbos not to feel provoked over what was being spread on social media;

That we are giving President Muhammad Buhari and his government benefit of doubt on justice, equity and good governance;

That as a non violent Forum we shall not fold our hands and watch compounded rape of our rights and conscience;

That we pledge to support government at all levels on issues of good governance while upholding the protection of Ndi-Igbo interests and unity globally and partnering with other tribes towards achieving our desired aims and objectives for a united Nigeria.
