Security operatives, yesterday, intercepted a Sienna Salon Car loaded with election materials at Magwan Polling Unit in Nassarawa Local Council of Kano State.
The vehicle with Registration Number PRN 54 GR was apprehended alongside the driver and three persons suspected to be party agents.
A source, who was at the polling unit when the incident occurred, told The Guardian they were arrested when one of the three persons engaged an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official in a long conversation.
The source said the conversation attracted security attention, when the suspects moved into the Sienna car, ostensibly to carry out their nefarious act.
He said the security officers later discovered boxes of electoral materials and INEC official stamps in the vehicle and arrested all the persons found in the car.
Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, Kano Command, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, said the vehicle was intercepted at Magwan Polling Unit in Nassarawa Local Council.
“The vehicle is in police custody and investigation has commenced to assert those behind the act, ” he said.
He added that a man was also arrested with six voter cards at Chirenchi Ward in Gwale Local Council. He said preliminary investigation has commenced while the suspect is being detained at Criminal Investigation department of Kano police command.
Meanwhile, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the election.
Abba, who spoke with journalists at his 006 Chirenchi Polling Unit, Diso Ward, Gwale Local Council, after casting his vote at noon, urged his supporters to remain calm.
