……”Mr President, Distinguished colleagues while we consider the nomination of Barrister Adeleke M. Adewolu as a member of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, it’s important that we query the non-inclusion of South East in the commission’s board as stipulated by the act” ~ SENATOR Uche Ekwunife

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial district, Senator Uche Ekwunife has decried the non-inclusion of South East in the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.

Ekwunife said this while raising a concern during the consideration of the nomination of Barrister Adeleke M. Adewolu for confirmation as Executive Commissioner on the governing board of the NCC at the Senate plenary of Wednesday.

Speaking at the Senate plenary, Senator Ekwunife noted that while the NCC Act provides for a board for the commission with Executive Commissioners from each of the six geopolitical zones in the country, South East is the only geopolitical zone currently without an Executive Commissioner as duly provided in the NCC Act.

“Mr President, Distinguished colleagues while we consider the nomination of Barrister Adeleke M. Adewolu as a member of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, it’s important that we query the non-inclusion of South East in the commission’s board as stipulated by the act”, she said.

She further stated that every zone in the country must be represented in the board, and the consideration of Barr. Adewolu for confirmation presents an opportunity to correct the anomaly.

Supporting Senator Ekwunife, Senator Rochas Okorocha rose to appeal that the Chairman of the Federal Character Committee looks into the appointment of the NCC Board and other appointments to guarantee the inclusion of every part of the country.
