As the antics continue at the upper chamber of the National Assembly over who becomes the next Senate President, the North-East Women and Youth Support Group have commended the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje, for stepping down and endorsing Senator Ahmed Lawan to emerge as the next Senate President.
Appealing to the newly elected senators of the All Progressives Party(APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties to back Senator Lawan’s emergence for progressive and vibrant leadership, the group said, he would bring progress to bear if elected.
According to the group, Lawan’s endorsement which took place after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is a sign that the coast is absolutely clear for all Senators to cue in and support the outright emergence of Senator Lawan.
The group noted that ”A vote for Lawan to emerge as the Senate President is a vote for unity of lawmakers, the harmonious relationship among members of NASS and purposeful leadership devoid of rancour”.
The National Coordinator of the group, Honourable Hassan Danjuma Samdi in a statement made available to journalists said Senator Ahmed Lawan as a senior high ranking lawmaker has all the requisite experience, leadership quality and ability to steer the affairs of the 9th Senate and National Assembly as the Chairman.
