Soldiers Disperse Angry Protesters In Bayelsa State

The people of Twon Brass Kingdom staged a protest against Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) over a prolonged power outage and ill-treatment meted out to people from the community employed by the oil company, snow-balled into a major crack down as soldiers were deployed to disperse the protesters.

Akelicious gathered yesterday, that tensions in the community heightened around noon due to the shooting of one of the protesters and the injury of many as they fled for safety from soldiers’ shooting.

Findings by leadership revealed that the protest which began on Friday continued on Monday and Tuesday after information filtered out that some influential traditional in the community have been paid by the oil company to discourage the protest.
