The Northern Elders Forum, NEF through its Chairman has alleged that the people from the North East of Nigeria are responsible for most of the attacks against Northerners that occurs outside the northern part of the nation.
The Forums Chairman, Professor Ango Abdullah reportedly made the allegation yesterday, Tuesday in Port Harcourt. Prof Ango spoke while in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital where the Forum kick started what is planned as a tour of northern communities across other parts of the country following the #EndSARS protests that rocked many parts of the country.
The NEF opined that the northerners suffered great losses from the attacks and that those who perpetuated the violence are the SME people who are crying more and demanding compensation from the government. As quoted by the press, Ango stated that:
“It is now becoming clear that most of the violence that are being meted out to the northerners in various parts of the South came from people from the south-eastern states. People with some names”.
The reported statement continues: “We are not sure what name really they want to keep. They come with different brands, use these names to perpetrated criminality in different parts of the country. For years, this particular incident has been with us”.
The Forum however expressed delight that from the accounts of residents in Rivers, the governor did his best and was alive to his responsibility of protecting lives and properties of residents in fulfillment of his oath of office as governor.
The NEF delegation reportedly stated that the delegation will also visit the South East where they hope to meet with the authorities and urge them to do more to protect lives and properties of all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from.
