Chelsea have added Leicester City man Jamie Vardy to their January transfer wishlist – though Gonzalo Higuain remains Maurizio Sarri’s preferred signing.
The Blues are looking to strengthen their strike force this month in anticipation of Alvaro Morata’s likely departure, with the Spaniard eager to leave amid interest from Spain.
Maurizio Sarri has made Gonzalo Higuain his number one choice to replace Alvaro Morata, having worked with him previously at Napoli, but now The Telegraph claims Chelsea are also looking at Jamie Vardy.
The Leicester man, who has seven goals in the Premier League this season, is part of a three-man shortlist that also includes Bournemouth ace Callum Wilson.
However, the interest in Jamie Vardy is rather curious given that he will turn 32 in just a few days and the Blues are reluctant to sign players over the age of 30.
In addition, he signed a new four-year contract with the Foxes over the summer worth £120,000-a-week, though Chelsea are only ready to offer one-year rolling contracts to older players.
The former England international is far from an ideal fit for ‘Sarri-ball’, with his game more reliant on counter-attacking into space than fox-in-the-box goal poaching.
